Gender Discrimination has been a part of the many issues of society. Gender discrimination persists in many countries. Social issues exist because people from different places come live together under a social setting and conflict arises due to the fact that everyone has different opinions in regards to religion, health, political issues, education, etc. There are however, many ways to overcome these social issues to help society function as a whole. Conflict theorists believe that the struggle over power exists between groups in society. In this theory, men are seen as the dominant gender and women are viewed as weak. Women are seen as submissive towards men in order for men to maintain the power and privilege in society. Conflict theorists affirm that social problems occur because the dominant groups (men) oppress the subordinate groups (women). It becomes apparent that women are treated unfairly in society when we study issues, such as The Gender Wage Gap. The gender wage gap is a very sensitive issue that woman have been fighting for many years. The pay gap is defined as,† the difference in men’s and women’s median earnings† (The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap). The gender wage gap is very unfair and unequal to all women. There are no real reasons why men are paid more. Of course, the excuse for paying them more is that they are smarter or stronger. Women have worked so hard to prove this wrong.
